South By Southwest is coming soon and it has grown into the largest event in Austin. It started in 1987 and now encompasses music, film, interactive media, conferences, exhibitions and a trade show. It runs from March 9th through the 18th this year.
The music festival this year features groups like, Starcrawler, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Acid Tounge, Bad Moves, BeatKing, Cedric Burnside, CHAI, David Ramirez, Dark Bird, Ellevator, FAZI, Graham Reynolds, Heartstreets, India Ramey, Jake Lloyd, KANGA, Le Couleur, Mantra, Novella, Inc., The Outer Vibe and many, many others.
SXSW sessions range from code and programming sessions, gaming, marketing, startups, food, music and many more. Featured speakers include Paul Duncan with Amazon, Nanjira Sambuli with World Wide Web Foundation, Caroline Horn with Indeed.com, Emeka Afigbo with Facebook, Kabir Akhtar, ACE, Editor and Director with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and New Girl, Taylor Allen, Editor, the Simpsons, Brendon Anthony Director of the Texas Music Office, Todd Arata, VP Brand Management with Comcast, and Lindsey Ashley with the Texas Film Commission.
Special Events include, Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music Presents: Fresh Cuts 2.0, Comcast Social Media Lounge, hosted by TechSet, and the SXSW Startup & Tech Venue Lounge.
Venues outside of the concert venue include, Austin Convention Center, Antone’s, Austin City Hall, 512 Rooftop, BD Riley’s, Café Blue, Maggie Mae’s, The Long Center, The Roosevelt Room and others.
Attendance is expected to exceed 150,000 this year over the ten days of SXSW. The economic impact is predicted to exceed $350 Million. Living in the city were SXSW resides gives one easy access to the venues, events and sessions. It's a great experience and every year brings something new.
