Welcome to 2018 everyone! As we enter 2018 with our holiday cheer in the rearview mirror keep the good times rolling with a slew of great events happening throughout Austin in January and February. From our famed 'Free Week' featuring local musicians throughout Austin many music venues to Black History Month celebrations.
The first week of January might be the best time for a music fan to visit Austin. Why? Hundreds of Austin bands participate in this annual event that encompasses multiple venues all over Austin.
Martin Luther King March and Festival
Join the march from the MLK statue at the University of Texas campus to historic Huston-Tillotson University to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy for Austin and the world.

Frontera Fest 2018

Austin’s Frontera Fest is a five-week festival of offbeat fringe theatre. Every night they present a new, unjuried bill of four or five plays no longer than 25 minutes each. Taking place at venues across Austin, this celebration is a great way to see the city while supporting the arts. Make sure to check the performance schedule for certain events and dates (tickets sell out fast).

If you’re a runner, get your friends and family to come out to support you and the other runners who are participating in the race! This is an opportunity to showcase the best city in America, Austin! This race draws runners from across the country who have come to see what Austin is all about- the iconic sites, the delicious food, and the vast community that brings out the best in people. At the finish line along Congress, there will be live music, awesome food trucks and, and a medal for participating in the race!

Long Center Concert Club presents Wood & Wire, Wednesday, January 17 in Rollins Studio Theatre. It’s been 5 years since Wood & Wire sprouted out of the rich musical soil of Austin, TX. In that time, they’ve written music, recorded records, and performed at some of the most notable festivals and venues across the country.

To commemorate Black History Month there will be events throughout the city celebrating important people and moments in time in African-American history.
Palmer Events Center
Carnaval in Austin is one of the biggest Brazilian Carnaval celebrations outside Brazil. Brasileiro-style samba, costumes and wild abandon can all be seen in the heart of Texas.

As one of Austin’s most progressive festivals, OUTsider brings together Austin’s LGBTQI community for five days of creation and inspiration. This multidisciplinary art festival showcases film, performance art, music, visual art and more.
Austin Marathon & Half Marathon
One of the country's premier races attracts nearly 20,000 participants from around the world. Events surrounding the marathon iclude a 5K, live music, finish line festival and beer garden.
Austin Oyster Festival
This is one tasty festival you don’t want to miss! The Oyster Festival is an annual hit among locals and visitors alike. Not sure which kind of oyster you prefer? Try ‘em all while enjoying a little live cajun and “newgrass” music on the lawn!
