What I Love About Austin ~ Austin Public Library

The Austin Public Library, with all its branches is an often overlooked resource.  The various branches are host to a myriad of classes, events and meetings.  All for the benefit of the general public.  Classes range from general computer classes to specific computer classes like, “Introduction To Microsoft Excel” to Screenwriting classes, to story time for ages from toddler to adult.

There are meetings and classes for, “Music & Movement”, “Ella Fitzgerald: The Legendary First Lady of Song”, “The Art of Serenity – Finding Peace Through Painting and Drawing”, and “Money Smart Week – Your Own Home”.

The Austin Inventor’s and Entrepreneur’s Association started it’s meetings at a Northwest branch,

Analyzing a growing disparity in market conditions among housing price classes, the report underscored the need for policies that create additional housing capacity to meet the market demand and a broader range of housing types throughout the region.

"Now that we are in the heat of Spring selling season we are seeing home sales in the luxury sector really pick up across Austin.  Although overall sales have fallen slightly from peak numbers last year the housing inventory is still low and people, nearly 150 a day, are moving to the Austin area.  We expect home sale numbers to continue to keep a strong pace going into the summer.  We also expect a large number of new homes to come to market over the summer which should help satiate first time buyers."

Frank Erwin Center will soon be no more

The University of Texas’ Frank Erwin Center will soon be no more. The university announced Friday afternoon it would be tearing it down and building a new basketball arena on campus in the next 5-7 years.

“The campus master plan developed in 2012 called for the land under the Erwin Center to be used for future expansion of the Dell Medical School and the UT Health District,” UT president Gregory Fenves said.
